The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shined. ~Isaiah 9:2
The star is central to the story of Christ's birth and reminds us that Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
In our part of the world, Advent and Christmas come at a very dark season. We welcome the lights that decorate homes and the candles that brighten a room.
This Advent season at Calvin we are preparing for the birth of Christ with symbols that remind us of the story of faith. Stars will remind us of the light Christ brings to our lives and our world.
Advent is preparing our hearts to hear again the story of Emmanuel - God with us. Advent reminds us that God comes to our lives just as God came to the lives of our ancestors in the faith so long ago.
