There are exciting changes happening at Calvin Church right now! There is construction in the sanctuary in anticipation of our new organ installation. We have removed the old carpeting to install beautiful wood flooring in the Chancel. The decision to use wood was not only for its look, but also its better acoustics for making music. As this work progresses, we’ll be installing the shelving high on the front wall to house the six speakers for our new organ. As we do this, we are also providing electrical capability under the shelf for down lighting for the choir (so we can better see our music); and so that in the future we will be able to install a screen for projecting pictures and such.
We anticipate the organ and speakers will be installed the second week in February. After installation, the seller will be working on voicing the organ in our space. This will take a few weeks of trial and error as it is a bit of an art. We will have a dedication concert sometime this spring to honor this effort of advancing our music ministry.
All of these changes are made possible by the generosity of our church, from contributions to our church organ fund and from an anonymous gift of $10,000 to assist in the remodeling of the Chancel. We have used $5,000 from our Building Fund toward the flooring (a renovation to our building that should outlast us all!) and all other costs are covered by the specifically earmarked donations. We will also be able to sell back, at dealer cost, the speakers we installed a few years ago.
Finally, to complete our efforts, and to make better room for our new organ, we are replacing the old choir pews from the Crystal Bay Church with interlocking chairs and safer risers. More on this to come...
Thanks to everyone who is helping us continue to make a joyful noise!
